How to Build a Gazebo that looks like the Pros did it

If you’re planning on building a gazebo yourself, your first step is to evaluate the area where you’re going to put the gazebo. What kind of soil do you have to work with? Do you need to add soil to make it level? Are you in a flood zone? What size of area do you have to work with? Is it big or small?

If you’re planning on building a grandiose gazebo and you only have a small area to work with you might want to think again, sometimes bigger is not always better. You want to build your gazebo in proportion to the size of area you have to work with.

There are many places you can look that will help you with the information that you need in order to build a gazebo. One great place is DIY online, the do it yourself network show, that show you how to build just about anything and everything. At DIY you can find complete step-by-step instructions on how to build your gazebo.

The host of DIY, Paul Ryan, has dedicated an entire show to recreating a backyard by building a beautiful new cedar gazebo from a kit. He demonstrates how to build a gazebo right from the very beginning, first by putting together the base and flooring, attaching the corner posts and walls, and then by adding the finishing touches of a shingled roof and cupola.

You don’t have to use the exact gazebo model that host Paul Ryan of DIY used, but following his instructions will help you when you plan on building your own gazebo. He’ll hold your hand through the whole gazebo building process, and if you have questions, you can always get help through the message board and blogs on the DIY website.

Once you’ve decided what type of gazebo you would like to build the next step is to purchase plans that will show you what materials you will need to buy in order for you to build your gazebo. You can purchase gazebo plans online, at your local home improvement store, or from and architect. You can sometimes find gazebo plans for free from your local library.

You have a choice of purchasing plans by themselves and buying all the supplies yourself, or buying a gazebo kit that comes with plans and all the supplies that you need to build a gazebo, all you need is the tools.

The gazebo plans should give you a list of all the materials and hardware that you will need, exact measurements for all the pieces of the gazebo, step-by-step instructions, and any tools that you will need in order to build your gazebo.

No matter which way you decide to go, kit or no kit, the steps for building your gazebo will be the same. You start from the ground and work your way up. The floor and base comes first, next the posts and walls, and last comes the roof and cupola. The finished result is a beautiful gazebo.
